Kayaking on Koh Phangan

Dear Cousins,

Hello from Thailand! It’s December but it’s nice and warm here. No frostbite here, only sunburns! I’ve heard you have had lots of snow. Is school canceled? It does not feel like Christmas here! Construct any good snowmen yet? I saw photos of the snowball fort! We recently went snorkeling off Ko Phangan, an island in Southern Thailand. We took double kayaks. We kayaked over to the small island off the shore of Koh Phangan where the snorkeling was supposed to be good. Well, we tried to kayak there. The wind suddenly got really strong and every wave shook the kayak. Slowly, very slowly, we got there.

We saw blue and white striped fish, yellow and white stripes, reddish yellowish white fish, and grey-brown long fish. We also saw small yellow and white ones and small grey-brown ones. I snapped dozens of photos with my waterproof camera. If you held the bread in your hand, the fish would eat from it.

Then we set off to a spit of sand between the island and the mainland. It was not all out of the water but the spit was shallow enough to walk across. I swam next to the people walking in the shallow zone. So I have swum from an island to an island. After that, we kayaked back to our bay and luckily, the waves helped us go back this time.

Overall, I loved seeing all the fish and would easily do it again. Next time, I will get even more photos! I am excited to send you some photos!

Sincerely,

Lorenzo
